Raag Bhairavi (02.09.2011)

Theme of the day: Raag Bhairavi (Hindi: भैरबी), a Hindustani Classical heptatonic (Sampurna) Raag of Bhairavi Thaat. Traditionally a morning raga. In modern times, at least in Khyal Gayaki, it is usually performed as the concluding (finale) piece in concerts.

Good morning friends. For today, we are doing a feature on the Raag Bhairavi. One of the most beautiful classical Raags, it has been used extensively in Bollywood. Today we attempt to show you how various composers have used Bhairavi. Time compels us to limit the number of songs. But we start off with a beautiful song by Khayyam which is what we pray for this page. Please bless us.

As we go down the Bhairavi journey, this is a great romantic number composed by Shankar Jaikishen.

This is a beautiful classic Bhairavi. Possibly known to most of you. A C Ramchandra composition.

This is a song which has grown on me. Watch this song, I am sure your enjoyment will be enhanced. A S.D.Burman composition.

A beautiful song with words even more relevant today than they were when the song was first released. This is a Lakshmikant Pyarelal compostion.

One of my favorite Bhairavis composed to minimal music by the great Jaidev.

Signings off with this beautiful Hema Malini dance composed by Rahul Dev Burman. I hope you enjoyed this session dear friends. Have a great day folks.
