Simi Garewal (05.09.2011)

Good morning friends. Today I, Varun Reddy, will play host in this session, although the songs are still Sukrit sir’s choices J Today we are going to have songs featuring the charismatic (and seemingly never-aging) Simi Garewal. My first tryst with her acting was her role as Kamini Verma in “Karz”, a movie I first saw on DD-1 J Today’s session will feature some of her well-and-lesser-known songs. Kindly bless us with your feedback. The first song with from one of her earlier movies, and I find her incredibly beautiful in this video (in spite of the low video quality).

This sensual song is from the Dev Anand starrer “Teen Devian”, whose music was one of the last few master pieces of S. D. Burman (as Wikipedia says so). Having been used to seeing her in colour, it was tough for me to see Simi in B&W.

Song 2: “Kitni Thandi Hai Jalta Hai Badan” from “Teen Deviyan” (1965)

Another Rafi masterpiece, I’ve heard this song before and didn’t know it was a Simi starrer !!! She looks stunning in that purple pantsuit, reminds me of Indra Nooyi in some way – any comments?
The song is not as famous as the movie, but it makes for a pleasant hearing J Kind of reminds me of the “Ek Titli” song that used to air on DD J Look at young Simi go !!!
Song 4:Teetar ke do Aagay teeter” from “Mera naam joker” (1970)

Wikipedia tells me that Simi Garewal made a guest appearance in this movie, but the storyline suggests otherwise. Melodious song, and quite famous too – I’ve heard it a few times.
I love this song for many reasons - it being very romantic is one of them. A Bappi Lahiri composition, this was the standout song among many other wonderful songs in this movie. I hope you remember this song (and our site) while going about your daily chores J
Signing off with another Saathi number. Deserved more credit because this was one of the two roles for which received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award (the other being for her role in Do Badan). Have a great day folks J
Song 7: “Yeh kaun aaya” from “Saathi” (1970)

Sharda (04.09.2011)

Theme of the day: Sharda Rajan Iyengar or Sharda (Playback singer). Filmfare Award for “Best Female Playback Singer” in 1970

Good morning friends. Today we are going to feature the singer Sharda. While I personally don't think she can hold a candle to her contemporaries, she nevertheless sang a few songs which became quite popular. Most of those songs are being played today. I hope you enjoy them. Please bless us with feedback as usual!

A very nice song. Entirely different from all the other songs I have heard sung by her. And a lovely dance too.

I love this song mainly because of Sharmila Tagore doing a cabaret. Something that none of the heroines of her time ever essayed. In fact, the only other heroine I can think of doing something similar is Mumtaz.

Sharda won the Filmfare award for this song. Having said that, I have never heard it before. However, since it was one of the pinnacles of her career, here it is.

Sweet song which I have heard after ages. Makes me glad I did this session. :)

Possibly my favorite Sharda song.

Interesting song. Especially watching the young Rakhee and Vinod Mehra.

Since she has not sung many famous songs, I am relaxing my rule of restricting myself to one song per movie and playing another song from Suraj which is quite well known.

Signing off with one of my favorite cartooni songs so to speak. The words are Hyderabadi so Kamini Gopal assured me once. In my opinion one of her better sung songs. Have a great day folks.
