Simi Garewal (05.09.2011)

Good morning friends. Today I, Varun Reddy, will play host in this session, although the songs are still Sukrit sir’s choices J Today we are going to have songs featuring the charismatic (and seemingly never-aging) Simi Garewal. My first tryst with her acting was her role as Kamini Verma in “Karz”, a movie I first saw on DD-1 J Today’s session will feature some of her well-and-lesser-known songs. Kindly bless us with your feedback. The first song with from one of her earlier movies, and I find her incredibly beautiful in this video (in spite of the low video quality).

This sensual song is from the Dev Anand starrer “Teen Devian”, whose music was one of the last few master pieces of S. D. Burman (as Wikipedia says so). Having been used to seeing her in colour, it was tough for me to see Simi in B&W.

Song 2: “Kitni Thandi Hai Jalta Hai Badan” from “Teen Deviyan” (1965)

Another Rafi masterpiece, I’ve heard this song before and didn’t know it was a Simi starrer !!! She looks stunning in that purple pantsuit, reminds me of Indra Nooyi in some way – any comments?
The song is not as famous as the movie, but it makes for a pleasant hearing J Kind of reminds me of the “Ek Titli” song that used to air on DD J Look at young Simi go !!!
Song 4:Teetar ke do Aagay teeter” from “Mera naam joker” (1970)

Wikipedia tells me that Simi Garewal made a guest appearance in this movie, but the storyline suggests otherwise. Melodious song, and quite famous too – I’ve heard it a few times.
I love this song for many reasons - it being very romantic is one of them. A Bappi Lahiri composition, this was the standout song among many other wonderful songs in this movie. I hope you remember this song (and our site) while going about your daily chores J
Signing off with another Saathi number. Deserved more credit because this was one of the two roles for which received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award (the other being for her role in Do Badan). Have a great day folks J
Song 7: “Yeh kaun aaya” from “Saathi” (1970)

Bharati / Bharti (03.09.2011)

Theme of the day: actress of the 60s/Bharti (a famous actress of the 60s/70s; No Wikipedia page exists; IMDB confuses her in two separate pages with very similar names)

Good morning friends. Today we are going to do a session on a not very famous actress of the late 60s / early 70s called Bharti. She did not star in many movies, but nevertheless has some really nice songs featured on her. This song is one of them and I think you will love the words of this one. Not an unknown for KK fans I am sure. Do bless us as usual.
Song 1:"Priye Praneshwari" from "Hum Tum Aur Woh" (1971)

I have heard this song after ages. A beautiful romantic number. Watch Rakesh Roshan in his debut movie too! As an aside her fingers move on the Sitar like she knows what she is doing. Really enjoyable.
Song 2: "Aise Na Dekho" from "Ghar Ghar ki Kahani" (1970)

I don't remember hearing this song before. But a very sweet song any way.
Song 3: "Do baaton ki mujhko tamanna" from "Hum Tum Aur Woh" (1971)

Arguably her most famous song. A lovely song that appears to be based on Raag Lalit (Please confirm / educate). Also one of Vinod Khanna's early roles. Most of her movies seem to have her pairing with Vinod Khanna. Praful Thakkar, do you have any juicy stories about the couple?
Song 4: "Purva Suhanee Aaye"Purab aur Paschim" (1970)

While this song does not have her singing, it is a cute song anyway and reminds me of my childhood days.
Kabhi Aage Kabhi Pichhe - Mehmood & Bharti - Sadhu Aur Shaitan
Song 5: "Kabhi Aage Kabhi Pichhe " from "Sadhu Aur Shaitan" (1968)

We shall sign off with this beautiful song which is also a motto of sorts for us. Have a great day folks!
Song 6: "Chhed Mere Humrahi Geet Koi Aisa" from "Mastana" (1970)
